Many people see women as pretty, soft, nurturing, and malleable.  These attributes are associated with femininity and are generally positive.  Beneath the surface, however, women are so much more.

We are animals.  We are ferocious.  We are strong and vulnerable all at once.

"Stings of Command"
Septet: 5 minutes
Musical Collaboration: GRAMPUS, Louis Lopez
May 2012 (commissioned for the NEXT Company Concert)
        CalArts Lund Theater
        REDCAT

"Stings of Command" acts as a vital conversation we were never able to have with the people who never let us use our voice. The tone shifts between genuine frustration and tension, severe awareness of individual and group oppression, and finally a release. A great exhalation of truth!

"The Sinking of the Titanic"
Improvisational Sextet: 40 minutes
Musical Collaboration: Ryan Bancroft (conductor/musical director)
Original Composition by: Gavin Bryars
    March 2012
        The Wild Beast

Working soley from a musical score, the dancers and I formed a movement landscape as reaction to the intention of the written music. The two worlds of music and dance were combined for the first time the night of the performance.

"Boyle Heights"
Quintet: 20-25 minutes
Musical Collaboration: Louis Lopez, Brice Albert, GRAMPUS
    February 2012/ May 2012
        Coffeehouse Theater

"Boyle Heights" acts as a dedication to Derrick Ernest. A kindhearted, yet deeply troubled, teenager who ended his life in the summer of 2011 in Boyle Heights, CA. Derrick was a gay/black young man, who was subjected to harsh ridicule and isolation throughout his life, despite his beautiful spirit. "Boyle Heights" is an abstract collaborative response utilizing dance and music in order to generate a tone of acknowledgment and reconciliation. With this piece, we hope to offer up a sense of love and liberation to a heartbreaking and tragic moment in time.

"Fixed Moving" (a sequel to "Cutting Butter")
Solo: 5 minutes
Live Musical Collaboration: Live voice/electronics: Louis Lopez)
    February 2012
        ROD Music Theater

The objects that we acquire over time take on a life of their own. We allow them to silently witness our journey and join us through times of transition. These are our constants; a source of comfort. They are a reminder of where we have been and, just as much, a projection of our expectations.

"Fresh Eyes"
Solo: 3 minutes
Live Musical Collaboration: Louis Lopez
   July 2011
        Blue Diamond, NV

"Fresh Eyes" is a short solo accompanied by a live trumpet and electronic score by Louis Lopez. The piece grapples with the human themes of sickness and health as well as momentary self reflection after overwhelming physical experiences.

"Flowers Unfurling"
Group: 20 minutes
In Four Parts: "Teeth", "Flowers Unfurling", "Wind", "Breath of Waters"
Live Musical Collaboration: Louis Lopez, Daniel Eaton, Mike Lockwood, Ryan Parrish, Jake Rosenzweig, Steven Kai Van Betten
   May 2011
        New Works Festival
        Lulu May Von Hagen Courtyard

As a part of the CalArts New Works Festival, “Flowers Unfurling” is an aggressive yet mesmerizing outdoor, site specific dance work performed by eight young women exploring the honest and cyclical thoughts of the feminine animal. An ensemble of electronic and acoustic musicians perform original works by Louis Lopez, Albert Ayler, and their own improvisations to further the intense investigation of genuine human emotion and the rejection of superficiality.

"Cutting butter"
Duet: 10 minutes
Live Musical Collaboration: Live guitar/electronics: Louis Lopez)
    February 2011
        ROD Music Theater

This piece was a collaborative effort between Louis Lopez (composer), Kerrie Schroeder (dancer) and myself. Utilizing living room furniture and a meditative guitar score, we explored ideas of human connectivity. Specifically the feelings we endure while missing a loved one due to long distances.

"Campon"
Group: 8 minutes
Musical Collaboration: Louis Lopez
    April 2010
        Lund Theater

“Campon” is a collaborative piece with composer Louis Lopez. The piece is a quartet (3 girls, 1 boy) exploring the fragility of the human mind and memory. It is based loosely on the life of Herb Schlimbach, Louis’s grandfather, who was suffering from dementia, and unfortunately passed during this process.

"Seed"
Solo: 2 minutes
Musical Collaboration: Taylor Brizendine, Louis Lopez
    November 2009
        Lund Theater

“Seed” was my first musically collaborative piece working alongside Taylor Brizendine and Louis Lopez. It was also the first solo work I set on myself. This piece was imagined after I saw a piece of art Taylor Brizendine created out of a mandrake root. In the solo, I explored capturing this mandrake’s grotesque, awkward, and hyper-sexual life.

"They just don't want them to sit up there."
Group: 6 minutes
    May 2009
        Lund Theater

Six uniquely theatrical dancers created a quirky, absurd world of cannibal birds. They consumed turkey meat throughout the piece, and fed one another while dancing a unique animalistic vocabulary.

"Puddles"
Solo: 8 minutes
    February 2009
        Lund Theater

“Puddles” was a solo performed with a tin bucket of water. Loosely narrative, the piece explored the danger of the water, causing the physical embodiment of oppressed strife within the dancer.
